I read, My Story by Elizabeth Smart in just a week or so. She inspires me to write because of what she has gone through. If you have never heard of Elizabeth Smart, she got taken away from her home one night when she was 14 from a man named Brian David Mitchell. She was held captive for 9 months. She lived on a mountain with Brian and his wife Wanda, but they called her Barzee. For a few months until some hikers came along and saw their tents set up, Brian decided that spot on the mountain wasn't safe anymore. That night Elizabeth, Barzee, and Brian traveled to Utah. They stayed there for a couple of months. Elizabeth finally got to go into town and so did Barzee, but she was forced to drink plenty of alcohol with Brian and Barzee. Eventually, people spotted Brian's spot where Barzee, Brian and Elizabeth had been sleeping. That's when Elizabeth suggested to go back to her hometown, California. That's when Elizabeth was found when she was walking with Brian and Barzee and one cop pulled her aside and asked if she was Elizabeth Smart. That's when she finally got to eat, sleep, drink real drinks, and find her family. Barzee got 12 years of jail time while Brian got a life sentence. They made a movie out of her story too that is found on Lifetime.
This is the costume she had to wear. If she went out in
public and cops asked why she was wearing such a
weird outfit, Brian David Mitchell said that,' It was
apart of their religion.'
